WARNING when buying Epson products (2008-04-18)
PURCHASE YOUR EPSON PRODUCT THROUGH AN AUTHORIZED DEALER OR FROM EPSON DIRECTLY.
This is not a review of this product, but rather a word to the wise… Two and half months after my purchase of an Epson 10000XL scanner through Amazon, it stopped working. Through the followup and tech support process I learned that, because I purchased through Amazon, the manufacturer nor the seller would honor the 1 year warranty. Epson’s position is that Amazon is not an authorized seller and that they merely act as broker for what can often be re-furbished or second hand merchandise.
So, should your purchase break or malfunction, as mine did, you are out of luck with regard to warranty.
This lesson cost me $2400.00Moviemate 25 (2007-12-29)
Decent image, and so simple, my wife can operate it! Quieter and cooler then a DLP, but not quite as sharp. Good compromise in a single box.Affordable Home Theater (2007-10-20)
For about $1000-$1200, The Epson Movemate 25 allows you to create your own home theater. I’ve used mine for about 2 years now, projecting onto my wall to create a 10′ screen. A couple times we moved the furniture and had ourselves an 18′ (diagonal) screen-great for watching King Kong. The image is sharp and clear and the sound is more than adequate for watching movies from our couch. You won’t have “surround-sound” but the accompanying sub-woofer is enought to give a little extra “punch” especially during battle scenes, etc. Combined with Netflix its a lot cheaper than movie theaters. Once you try it, you’ll never again waste your time watching a movie on a TV set.Best Family Gift We Ever Bought (2007-05-29)
Bought this for Xmas for the “kids”. Had to redo the basement/kids playroom due to plumbing problem…best unfortunate mishap we ever had.
We decided to go from playroom to media room and its is fantastic.
The Moviemate sits on a coffee table and we project to the back basement wall which we painted white. The sound and picture quality is fantastic and the kids love laying on the floor with the pillows for our family
nights. The teenagers love it because we have PS2 hooked up and there are many Guitar Heroe/DDR competitions in life size format…easy easy easy set up. In our opinion its much better than expensive plasma tvs …and an easy self fixing bulb can be replaced when needed.Try that with a Tv…as soon as you buy it the repair man will tell you to toss when it goes ..too expensive to fix!
Next is a blow up movie screen (199.000) for outdoor movies.the biggest kids is gonna love that for Father Day!!Epson Moviemate 25 Projector (2007-02-24)
I got mine refurbished. After weeks of reviewing websites about projectors, I decided to give this one a shot. I bought a 92 inch screen and the picture looks awesome. I was a little worried about the so-called “screen door effect” that many had mentioned (due to the lower resolution), but that is not a big deal to me for the price range. I don’t even notice it unless I’m trying to see it.
The first movie I played in it was Pearl Harbor. That war scene in the harbor with the Moviemate connected via optical cable to my surround sound, gave me goosebumps. I never have to go to the movies again. It really is like having your own theater at home.
We also hooked up my sons Playstation 2. That is pretty cool, too.
The speaker sound w/ the subwoofer is pretty good, too.
All of the other features and the remote I like, also.
I have my Moviemate about 12 feet from the screen to fill the 92 inch diagnal screen.
Oh, the adjustable lens is so cool. Its the only projector I’ve seen with this feature and I don’t know why. It really comes in handy to center the picture where you want it.
I recommend this product for anyone looking for a projector. For a few hundred more dollars, you can get one with a higher resolution so the picture is “crystal” clear, but you’ll be lacking a lot of the other cool features.
